WHY A COOPERATIVE?
The greatest strength of a cooperative school is the benefits children receive from their parents' involvement in their education. Secondary benefits are the opportunities provided for parents to learn and grow.
A co-op:
- Eases the transition between home and school and provides a way for parents to share in their child's first experience away from home:
- Offers the advantage of a small class size in a warm and friendly atmosphere:
- Helps parents learn more about typical behavior and characteristics of children in general, and their child in particular, through the observations of competent teachers and the interaction of children of similar age:
- Provides leadership and parent-education opportunities:
- Extends social contacts and fosters sharing and support with other parents:
- Offers a positive attitude toward future school attendance.
Cooperative programs often operate for a quarter of the cost of similar, non-cooperative programs.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT.
Studies show that when parents are involved in the schooling of their children, the results are academic progress, increased skills, more realistic expectations, and improved parent-child relationships.
Parents are involved in Red Barn on many levels. They share in the planning, operation, and maintenance of the school and participate on a rotating basis in the classroom. In addition, they serve on the board of directors or on a committee, participate in annual fundraisers and are integral in the funding of the school.
Options are available to accommodate the needs of parents who work full-time.
